Abstract

This paper systematically reviews the major research achievements and engineering advancements in thermal spray technology for gas turbine applications, based on a comprehensive logical framework encompassing "operating conditions—coating requirements—process methods—material systems—failure mechanisms—development trends." Chapter 1 serves as an introduction, outlining the research background, technical significance, and overall structure of the paper. Chapter 2 analyzes the service environments of key gas turbine components and their differentiated coating requirements. Chapter 3 provides detailed descriptions of the principles, characteristics, and application scenarios of mainstream thermal spray technologies. Chapters 4 through 7 focus respectively on four primary coating types: thermal barrier coatings, abradable seal coatings, erosion-resistant coatings, and oxidation/corrosion-resistant coatings. Chapter 8 discusses coating failure mechanisms and life prediction methods. Chapter 9 summarizes the entire paper and outlines future research directions. It is hoped that this systematic review will provide valuable references for researchers and engineers involved in gas turbine design and manufacturing, thermal spray process development, and coating materials research.
